just a quick little update...

Hey there. I can't believe that August is coming to an end....oh how the summer has flown by. We are busy here trying to finish up some projects before the busyness of fall is here.
When my parents-in-law were up at the end of July, they brought a piano for us. We feel privileged to use this piano as it was Carolyn's mother's piano. Our kiddos are so excited that there is a musical instrument in our home just waiting to played....and they play it often! Maggie will be starting piano lessons in the fall. New piano means some rearranging and decorating!

The next project that desperately needed to be completed was book shelves for the girls' room. I sold their bookshelf in our garage sale awhile back and had not had the chance to replace it....which meant books all over their floor and a continual mess. So today I was absolutely done with the disaster. The first paint job I did on the shelves did not turn out how I had anticipated and was quite disappointed. So I switched gears and instead of a pastel pink (which was the first colour), I went with black and gold. Because I don't know if you can ever go wrong with black and gold. And here is the end result....

The plan I followed for these floating book shelves was so simple and so cheap! You can find the link to the Ana White website here.
So happy that all the books are off the ground!
And finally there has been a lot of progress on our dining room table. My hubby helped me so much!

YAY! Our dining room table is built! And it is more beautiful than I anticipated....so grateful that Phil was able to help me put this beauty together. Now I have a lot of wood filling and sanding to do, but my goal is to show you my new dining room by the end of August.

That's all for now!

entryway facelift

Exciting new things have happened around our house!
Last weekend my parents came up and we were able to get a project done that I have been anxiously waiting to complete. We received an old door from some friends here in Melfort, and thanks to my mom's great idea, decided to use it as a sliding door for our front entrance closet. My sister graciously gave me an old sliding barn door hardware set from the barn on her yard and my dad and hubby were able to put it up! This project definitely could not have been achieved without family and friends! The only words that I have to describe how I feel about this "new" entry way is awesome....it is just awesome. Because the wall was now blank I felt like it needed a little bit of spicing up! So my hubby helped me cut out my chevron inspired pattern from plywood, used some spray paint, and after measuring it out on the wall....was able to put up my own wall art. I am just loving my updated entryway!
Happy Friday everyone!

diy wooden chandelier

Hello! There have been some exciting new projects completed around my house. I have been looking for a light fixture for our living room area and have not been able to find something that will work for our space. After looking through the inspiration light fixtures from my last post, I decided to make the Wooden Openwork Cube Pendant Light from Vintage Revivals. The tutorial on the Vintage Revivals blog is so simple to follow and I'm so happy with the results!

Now to find a nice lightbulb to put in it!

An update! The wood for my table is bought, YAY! And I also bought some wood to make my own chandelier, which hopefully will get done asap. Planning on going to my friend's house next week to start cutting wood and building my new table.

sunshine + yellow

Hello! So the past week has been FILLED with sunshine and we are just soaking it in. We have been spending our days enjoying having Joel + Dani + co. move close enough for frequent visits, picking raspberries, making jam, going to the lake, and sitting by fires. Phil and I realized at our last fire it was time for some new chairs to spruce up the decor outside and to be a tad more comfy....so we got ourselves some new Muskoka inspired chairs, in yellow!

I am loving the pop of colour these beauties contribute to our backyard, and they are quite comfy to relax in.
Hoping this week to buy the wood for our dining room table and start building...will keep you posted!
