salon 20

Okay, I am super excited to share this post with you! Approximately one month ago, my sister Stephanie, decided to embark on a new adventure and open up her own salon. She asked me to help her with decorating and I said absolutely YES! So during her big shopping trip, I helped her from afar and then went down to Swift Current one weekend and helped with some painting and setting up the furniture. It was so fun to help and work with my sister on this exciting project!
Since I haven't been able to get down to Swift Current since the big set-up (and I forgot my camera that weekend to document our progress!), my cousin Tara offered to take some photos for me! So all the beautiful photos on this post are from my amazingly talented cousin, who owns Random Eyesight Studio! Here is Salon 20 :)

This turned into such a beautiful space! And I am so proud of my sister. She is crazy talented as a hairstylist and I'm so excited that she has taken this leap in starting up her own salon. If you're in Swift Current, you should definitely check it out! And thank you once again to Tara (Random Eyesight Studio) for the beautiful photos!

diy side table

 Happy Saturday!
Yesterday I was able to finish a little project that I have been working on. One of the things I needed was a plant stand/side table so I decided to make my own. Turned out to be a pretty easy little project :)
When we moved into this house, there was a spindle railing along the entrance, which we took out when we redid the flooring. I ended up keeping the spindles because I thought I could use them for a project, and didn't end up using them until now. But they make the perfect legs for my little table!
First we had to cut the legs to the same length. I then cut a table top out of plywood that I had lying around our yard. I glued a piece of good-one-side plywood to a 1/2" piece of plywood to create a nicer finish on the top side of the table. And then attached the legs with screws (note: I remembered after I had done this step that I had wanted to attach the legs to the 1/2" plywood before glueing the good-one-side plywood on top....that would have avoided the need for wood filler...maybe I'll remember next time!). Once the table was assembled I sanded everything down and prepped it for painting.
I was inspired by the wall that my sister and I did in her salon (hopefully I can show you soon!) and decided to do a triangle painted pattern on the top of the table just to add some pizzazz!
For creating perfectly straight paint lines, my sister's father-in-law shared an amazing tip with us. When the tape is in place, lightly sand along the tap. It's amazing how this works! The lines turn out completely perfect!

Now to make my second coffee of the morning and fold some laundry! Happy weekend :)

assignment #7

Hello! Life has been busy busy busy. The last couple weeks I've been working on finishing up one of my assignments for the Interior Design Course that I'm taking. The assignment was to create a Finishes and Specifications schedule, sourcing everything from flooring to wall coverings to cabinetry to doors & windows to hardware. It was such a fun assignment to research for! And got me dreaming even more about the endless possibilities for our home....wallpaper is top on my dream list! Anyways, I thought I'd share some of the elements that I'm using in my assignment....
Found so many lovely ideas and inspirations for the home during my researching!

I have been able to finish a few projects in my home that hopefully I will be able to share with you soon. I also had the opportunity to help my sister, who started up her own salon, add some decor elements to her new space which I hope to share with you (as soon as I get back to Swift to take some pictures....forgot my camera when I went!)! Plus there are a couple new projects on the horizon that I'm so excited to tackle and share with you.

Enjoy the rest of your day :)

bringing the outside in

Hello!
Well it's Thursday and it is crazy quiet at my house...kiddo #1 is at school, #2 is having quiet reading time and #3 is napping....it is abnormally quiet! So I put a peach pie in the oven and decided to show you a few pictures of my plants that I brought inside. Makes me a bit sad that we're at that time of year again were it starts to get chilly but greenery always makes me smile! Plus I've got a way better centerpiece for my table than the one in the previous post!
Enjoy!

And I found these beauties at the grocery store this morning :)

Well happy Thursday!

dining room before and after

Hello there! I realize that it's been awhile since I've updated the blog, there has been a lot going on. Last week I went down to Swift Current to help my sister set up her new salon, which is opening this week!! Hoping to get down there in the next month to take some pictures (because I forgot my camera!) and show you what we were able to accomplish.

Phil and I were also able to work on and complete our dining room table. Which I am just elated about! Honestly, there are a few more details that I would like to add to the dining room but I'm too excited not to show you how far the transformation has gone so far!

Here's a picture of our before...amidst renovations and moving in!

Table building process...
Plans for this table can be found here

 And now after...
I'm so happy with our table. I guess I should have gone to get a fresh bouquet of flowers for the pictures but maybe next time!

Well it's the end of the long weekend and the craziness of fall will begin! My daughter starts school tomorrow so I'm anticipating a busy week!
Have a good night :)
